How to get the ‘Summer Glow’

Hi everyone!

So it is pretty gloomy here in the UK at the moment, but that doesn’t mean you still can’t have the healthy summer glow all year round! So it only seems appropriate to share some of my favourite beauty products that help give that ‘glow’.

I love the bronzed, glowy look. The kind of makeup that makes you look like you have been in the Caribbean for two weeks, or the look of a Victoria’s Secret model that is about to step on the catwalk (I wish). But there are products out there to help achieve this healthy, bronze glow and I’m going to share with you a few of my favourites.

First of all, bronzer, bronzer and you guessed it, more bronzer. This is your best friend when it comes to getting the ‘glow’. Personally, when it comes to bronzer I prefer the more ‘natural’ than contoured look. I find it’s best to sweep it everywhere the sun hits your face. That’s your forehead, cheeks, nose and temples (basically everywhere). But by gently sweeping the bronzer around your face with little precision, it provides a far more natural and sun kissed look.

I have tried a fair few high end and budget bronzers, but these two come top!

The infamous Benefit ‘Hoola’ bronzer is the top of the list for almost all beauty bloggers and beauty lovers out there. It is the perfect matt bronzer that is not too dark and can be built up if you want a deeper colour. The consistency makes it a dream to blend and it can also be used as a contour to get those chiselled Cheekbones! It also comes with a brush of good quality, which is a great alternative to the much-loved Nars Ita brush.

However, a more recent discovery of mine is the Bourjois bronzing powder. This is a great dupe for Benefit’s Hoola, and to be honest, I can’t tell much difference between the two! This is also matt (which I personally prefer) and along with the Hoola, it is easy to blend. It is also a fraction of the price… what’s not to love?! The only difference I have noticed between the two is the Hoola lasts a little longer on my skin throughout the day, whereas the Bourjois does have a tendency to fade. But, if you are looking for a budget, high quality, matt bronzer, then this is one you must try! Especially if you want to save some pennies!

The next, obvious product for a ‘Summer Glow’ is of course a highlighter. I have a few favourites for this, both of which are completely different.

Benefit’s ‘Dandelion Tint’ is gorgeous and the most subtle and natural of the two. It provides a matt glow. It is the kind of highlighter that gives a ‘healthy glow from within’ kind of look. I use it on the usual places to highlight, such as cheekbones, brow bone, down the nose and it offers a gorgeous, brightening effect. I also love to mix it with my concealer for under the eyes to give the extra pop of brightness. It is an all round great product that provides natural radiance. Plus, the packaging is cute.

My all-time favourite highlighter is of course Mary-Lou Manizer. This product is insane. It is the extreme of highlighters, but in my opinion, fabulous. Wherever this product is on your face, it is sure going to pop! It provides a stunning radiance and glow; however, you do have to be careful not to apply too much! It is a great product to use if you know you are going out and are having lots of photos, but it is also a great product to use on a daily basis. I use mine every day, and it seriously lasts forever! I have only had to repurchase this once in the last year and a half but that was my own fault and dropping it on the floor. Disaster.

To get the extra ‘glow’, I love to use it on my collarbone, the round of my shoulders and down the centre of my legs! This helps create the illusion of long, slimmer looking legs. Who wouldn’t want that?!

Both of these products are great to use separately and in conjunction with each other. These are the perfect products, for the perfect glow.

Base is the key for a flawless, glowy complexion. And to help achieve that, you need a brightening primer. The bareMinerals brightening foundation primer is perfect for this. It adds a luminous, healthy-looking glow to the skin, as well as providing a smooth and even base for your foundation. I cannot fault this product, and even though I have an oily T-Zone, I still find this product works great at extending the wear of my foundation. A great dupe for this is L’Oreal’s Lumi Magique Primer.

My final product that helps achieve the ‘Bronzed Goddess’ look is the Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette. If I could whip up my own palette with my favourite colours, this is what it would look like. There are 16 highly pigmented matt and shimmer shades, focused on natural browns and plum colours. They are all stunning and you can create so many gorgeous looks. You can use it for natural, every day looks, as well as heavy glam. If you are on the hunt for a new palette, then I highly recommend this! I prefer it so much more to my Naked Smokey Palette! Plus, it smells of chocolate! Incredible.

So that’s it. My favourite products to help achieve a ‘summer glow’ look.

What would you recommend?

I would love to try out more!

Lots of Love,

Lyds x
