With the growth and evolution of social media, body shaming is at its highest. And I don’t mean specifically by Internet trolls, I mean by you. Body shaming yourself.
We compare ourselves to others in an edited reality, a society where we only show the highlight reel. We think we are not beautiful enough. We think we are not doing enough or travelling enough. We think we are not good enough.
You don’t need a flatter stomach, a bigger bum, whiter teeth or longer hair to be ‘beautiful’. What you really need (including myself) is confidence and greater self-worth.
I know this is something a lot of females (and probably males) go through on a daily basis. Where you wake up and the first thing you do is scroll through social media and you are instantly filled with negative thoughts. You wake up and are uncontrollably comparing yourself to others, before you have probably even brushed your teeth, or eaten breakfast. I mean come on… how have we got to this point?! Before I’ve even stepped out of bed and processed what day it is, I’ve already begun comparing myself to others. We need to stop being in a never-ending cycle of things we wish we could change about ourselves.
See yourself as beautiful. Don’t think that because she’s beautiful, then you’re not. Surround yourself with people who support you, love you and bring out the best in you. Don’t put yourself down because you’ve put on a bit of weight or your stomach lacks definition. We don’t have to change ourselves on the outside to feel beautiful. We need to learn to learn to love ourselves from the inside.
As cliché as it is, at the end of the day, beauty comes from within. Embrace what you have. Accept those compliments. Love your body. Value who you are as person. Be passionate. Don’t bully your own body.
